[Column] Why Is South Korea Losing the Energy War?
Authors:
This column examines South Korea’s structural dependence on imported fossil fuels and argues for a broader understanding of energy security beyond resource procurement.
The article discusses how energy security should be approached as a system-level issue involving renewable energy expansion, power grid infrastructure, electricity market reform, industrial decarbonization, and governance. It also highlights gaps in Korea’s current legal and institutional framework and proposes a more integrated strategy linking energy security with economic and industrial policy.
